Vladimir Velickovic
was born on August 11th 1935 in Belgrade. He completed studies in architecture at the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade and worked at the Master's School of Krsto Hegedusic in Zagreb in 1962 and 1963. He was professor at the École Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris between 1983 and 2000, where he lives and works since 1966.
Since 1951 his works have been exhibited regularly and in 1984 he became a member of the Serbian Academy for Science and Arts. He received the highest French decoration for culture and arts, being given the title of a "Commandeur dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres". He works mostly with a limited range of colours including black, white, grey and a very cautiously used red colour. A central topic of his art is death. Wounded bodies and violence run through his works as motives, reflecting the painful history of his home country.
