was born in Rishon Le Zion (Palestine, today Israel) in 1928. In 1947 and 1948 he studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art in Jerusalem, followed by studies in archi- tecture in Zurich. Later he worked in the Atelier d'Art Abstrait (Paris) where he got acquainted with Fernand Léger and Auguste Herbin. Agam is one of the pioneers of the kinetic movement in art.
Since the 1970s he creates three-dimensional graphics called "Agamographs". He is one of the few Israeli artists that gained great international recognition and was considered one of the most important artists of the post- war period in the 1950s.
His pioneering spirit in architecture and sculpture has always been and still is a source of inspiration for many contemporary artists. Even today Agam is one of the most established exponents of contemporary art. Retrospec- tives of his work held in Europe, the USA and Asia allow for its great appreciation throughout the world.
