Portfolio Federico Garcia Lorca - Graphic by Canogar
Rafael Canogar
born in Toledo (Spain) in 1935, is one the most famous Spanish painters and lithographers. He completed his studies at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid as a master pupil of Vasque Diaz. It was here that he got interested in the great masters of modern painting such as Picasso, Miró or Braque. From 1955 on Cadogars style started to evolve into an abstract informal. Along with other artists such as Millares, Saura, Feito, Rivera, Serrano, Frances and Suarez he founded the artist group "El Paso" in 1957. In 1960 his works were exhibited in the MoMA in New York together with those by several other Spanish artists. Canogar was awarded with several international art prizes, including the Grand Prize of the São Paolo Biennial Exhibition in 1971 and the "Premio Nacional de Artes Plásticas" in 1982, which is the highest artistic prize of the Spanish government. Today his works are part of many important international collections and museums.
