Helge Leiberg

Born in Dresden-Loschewitz in 1954, German painter Helge Leiberg has been living and working in Berlin since 1984. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden and spent some time in Asia during several study visits. In his art, he provides constantly new descriptions of the figure in motion, giving up the detailed depiction of reality and reducing it to easily remembered chiffres, the interpretation of which being the task of the viewer's imagination.
His working method resembles that of Asiatic calligraphs: preparing themselves in long episodes of concentration, these artists create their Indian drawings fast and in swift succession of several drawings at a time.
Leiberg participated in numerous exhibitions inside Ger- many as well as Biennales in Asia. His art is represented in the most important German and international collec- tions among others the Getty-Museum (Los Angeles).
