Peter Klasen
was born in Lübeck (Germany) in 1935 and studied between 1956 and 1959 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin. Already before the beginning of his studies he had become acquainted with the art of Paul Klee, some protagonists of the Dada movement, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and the young Georg Baselitz. With the help of a scholarship he went to Paris and stayed there until 1989.
Since 1960 he has been participating in important group exhibitions inside Germany and France, including exhibi- tions in the Centre Georges Pompidou Paris. In 1969 he received the European Award in Ostende.
In the following time, the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris bought some of his works and in 1971 held a first retrospective of his art. The city of Paris commissioned him to carry out a wall fresco at the Metro station Quai d'Orsay. Peter Klasen lives and works in Chateauneuf-de-Grasse today.
